Membership Requirements

Associate Members (AM)

  • Application Requirements

    • Be interested in furthering the purposes of Montana Mediation Association

    • Complete an Application for Associate Membership (AM)

    • Pay a non-refundable $25 application fee ​

      • Application: Associate Member

      • Yearly Dues and & CE Requirements - $75/year. No CEs hours required.

​Certified Mediator (CM)

  • Application Requirements

  • Certified Mediators may also promote their mediation practice with a personal profile webpage on the MTMA website for $60 per year.

  • Application: Certified Mediator

  • Yearly Dues and & CE Requirements - $125/year plus 15 hours mediation-related CEs.

CM with Eldercare Designation (CM/E)

  • Application Requirements

  • Certified Mediators may also promote their mediation practice with a personal profile webpage on the MTMA website for $60 per year.

  • Application: CM/E Application

  • Yearly Dues and & CE Requirements - $150/year ($125 + $25 for designation) plus 15 hours mediation-related CEs and 3 hours of eldercare-related CEs.

CM with Family Designation (CM/F)

  • Application Requirments

  • Certified Mediators may also promote their mediation practice with a personal profile webpage on the MTMA website for $60 per year.

  • Application: CM/F Application

  • Yearly Dues and & CE Requirements - $150/year ($125 + $25 for designation) plus (a) 15 hours of mediation-related CEs and (b) 3 hours of family-related CEs.

  • CM with both Eldercare and Family designations (CM/E and CM/F):

    • Yearly Dues and & CE Requirements - $175/year ($125 + $25 for each designation) plus (a) 15 hours of mediation-related CEs and (b) 3 hours of eldercare-related CEs and (c) 3 hours of family-related CEs.

Emeritus Member

  • Application Requirments

    • Self-nominated or nominated by another party familiar with the work of the nominee

    • Meet or exceed the additional qualifications for Emeritus Membership as described in the MTMA Emeritus Member Standards

    • Have retired from practice as a mediator

    • Have been a dues paying member of MTMA for 10 or more years

    • Provided a total of 8 or more "significant contributions" to MTMA drawn from at lease 3 different categories of service.

    • Pay a non-refundable application fee ($25)

Emeritus Member

Maintaining Your Membership

MTMA’s membership year is July 1-June 30. To remain a member in good standing, dues and fees must be paid by June 30 of each year.

TO MAINTAIN MEMBERSHIP IN MTMA (EFFECTIVE MARCH 21, 2023):

  • Associate Members (AMs): Annual membership dues for AMs are $75. To remain a member in good standing, AMs must pay dues by June 30 of each year for the coming 12-month period. Continuing education is not required for Associate Members (AMs).

  • Certified Members (CMs): Annual membership dues for CMs are $125. To remain a member in good standing, CMs must pay dues by June 30 of each year for the coming 12-month period AND complete a self-report of 15 hours of mediation-related continuing education (CE) completed during the previous 12-month period ending June 30. A self-report form is provided for each member’s use.

  • Certified Members holding the Eldercare Designation (CM/E) and/or the Family Designation (CM/F): Annual membership dues for CM/Es and CM/Fs are $125 plus $25 for each additional designation ($150/year for a CM holding one designation; $175/year for a CM holding two designations). To remain a member in good standing, CM/Es and CM/Fs must pay dues by June 30 of each year for the coming 12-month period AND complete a self-report of (a) 15 hours of mediation-related continuing education (CE) AND (b) an additional 3-hours of eldercare or family-related CE completed during the previous 12-month period ending June 30. A self-report form is provided for each member’s use.

TO REINSTATE YOUR CERTIFICATION

IF IT HAS LAPSED

  • Reinstatement within 18 months: Basic mediation fundamentals class completed not more than 5 years from date of renewal.

  • Reinstatement between 18 months and 3 years: Basic mediation fundamentals class within the last 5 years and 30 hours of interactive continuing education within the last 3 years.

  • Reinstatement between 3 years and 5 years: Basic mediation fundamentals class and 40 hours of continuing education within the past 3 years.

  • An alternate means of qualifying if initial training was within 10 years and successful completion of the examination offered by a nationally recognized mediation organization (such as Mediate.com or the National Association of Certified Mediators), and/or based on a reciprocity agreement with another State.
