About MTMA

Montana Mediation Association (MTMA) is a professional, non-profit association comprised of certified mediators and other neutrals and individuals dedicated to the principles of informed, consensual resolution of interpersonal conflicts.

Montana Mediation Association (MTMA) was established in 1998 to promote and facilitate mediation as a viable alternative to litigation. The commitment of MTMA members to best practices and professional excellence is recognized throughout Montana. Founded upon principles of education, networking, and ethical practice, MTMA helps shape policy and legislation while promoting the value and relevance of mediation in Montana.

Our Mission

  • Promote mediation and other voluntary collaborative methods of conflict resolution in Montana.

  • Increase understanding and acceptance of mediation, and other appropriate processes for conflict resolution, by presenting meaningful information to the general public, the courts, the legislature, and other interested professionals.

  • Define standards of competency, qualifications, and ethics for professional mediators in Montana.

  • Support the professional growth and development of mediation and mediation programs.

Our Vision

MTMA promotes the philosophy that

  • conflict is natural and, when addressed in a constructive manner, can be an opportunity for personal growth and understanding;

  • constructive methods of dispute resolution are valuable;

  • mediation is a process for dispute resolution and conflict that is likely to create a lasting cooperative relationship for those facing conflict situations;

  • the Association seeks to foster the advancement of the mediation process through education, information, and other means available, for the public; and

  • the members of the Association are encouraged to settle disputes among themselves through a grievance procedure designed by the Association.
