My goal when I mediate a parenting dispute is to do what I call, "child centered mediation". I am very upfront with people when they first talk with me and tell them that if I think, in my professional judgement, that some decision or plan they want to make is not in their child's best interest, I will tell them so inasmuch as there is no one present to represent the child at the mediation. I guess I am an incurable guardian ad litem! I generally meet with each party prior to the mediation to find out what is REALLY going on. Finally, especially in family matters, I hope that the parties come to a resolution they can live with forever because they will be dealing with each other as long as the child is alive and even afterwards. My education includes a Master's of Social Work from the University of Washington. My work experience also includes a stint with the Visiting Nurses in Billings, adoptions, welfare, family counseling, and residential treatment for kids of both sexes ages 4-18. I have served on the Montana Mediation Association board, the NASW board, and am currently on the Soroptimist board, the Broadwater Health System board and am co-chairman of the 4-H horse committee. I also coached Little League for 6 yrs, soccer for 4, and did Eagle Mount skiing with my son for 3 yrs. |
